The commune of Lamarque-Pontacq joins this union through the Lourdes Pyrénées Agglomeration Community (CATLP) because the Ousse stream and its tributaries cross the village.

An animated model

Three thematic sessions were thus scheduled on the theme “Floods in the Gave de watershed How to protect yourself from flooding? “. A subject that concerns the village, the Lamarque-Pontacq school being the first in the upstream catchment area of the Gave de Pau to benefit from this awareness-raising.

Marie and Julie led, for cycle 3 from CE2 to CM2, thematic sessions in the form of games using an animated model representing the Gave de Pau watershed. The schoolchildren also received a fun booklet “Are the floods annoying you? “.

The source of the Ousse in the Hautes-Pyrénées

The Ousse is indeed the river par excellence of Pontacq, which could be called Pontacq-sur-l'Oousse. It has its source in the Hautes-Pyrénées, in the triangle formed by Lourdes, Poueyferré and Barvrai. It names a house near the source, as indicated on a map of the General Staff which, a little further up, distorts its name in the form “Ous R”.
After a very modest course of about 8 km, sufficient to operate a few small mills, it enters the territory of Pontacq from the south, bathes the town where it branches out and after 4 km, leaves from the north to return in the territory of Barzun. 30 km from its source it joins the Gave at Pau. It is torrential all along its course, not very abundant, dries up but also often overflows. Local tributaries of the Ousse: the Badé, the Arriu, the Barade, the Sausset, the Lourou… (source: Georges Baurain “Pontacq, the city and municipal institutions”)
