The world of European basketball is preparing to experience a historic event. Partizan Belgrade and Panathinaikos Athens, two legendary clubs, will play an exhibition match in Australia next September. This project, announced by Partizan president Ostoja Mijailović, marks the start of an ambitious collaboration between the two clubs.
During Partizan Pelgrade's end-of-year celebration, Mijailović shared details of this unique partnership. He explained that this match would only be the first step in a series of international tournaments organized jointly by the two clubs. The aim is to reach out to Greek and Serbian communities living abroad, particularly in Australia, where millions of people of Greek and Serbian origin reside.
“This project is unique. The idea is to organize tournaments every year in places where Greek and Serbian communities live. In Australia, there is great potential with fans willing to pay tens of millions of euros to support their clubs. This is an opportunity for both teams to strengthen their revenues while gaining international visibility,” Mijailović told MozzarSport.
This partnership is also based on the special relationships maintained by the leaders of the two clubs. Mijailović spoke about the role of legendary coach Željko Obradović, who spent several years at Panathinaikos and maintains strong ties with the Greek club.
In addition to the announcement of this exhibition match, Mijailović revealed that Partizan had signed a six-year sponsorship contract with the Nike brand. This new agreement marks an important step for the club, which thus strengthens its status as a major brand in European basketball.
