Dani Olmo is no longer registered with FC Barcelona, Jeffinho leaves Lyon, and several stars are free to sign with new clubs: find all the news and rumors of transfers in Football this Wednesday January 1, 2025.
The date of January 1 means that Barcelona player Dani Olmo’s contract has expired, and he has been deregistered by La Liga from Barça’s squad. The Catalan club, which has been facing significant financial problems for several years, had benefited from a temporary measure to register its new midfielder for the first half of the season. With the deadline now past, the club will have to find another solution if they want Olmo to participate in the matches. If he cannot play in La Liga this year, a loan will be considered. Pau Victor, the club’s striker, finds himself in the same situation. However, this situation doesn’t seem to worry Dani Olmo, who posted on Instagram last night with the caption “It’s time for 2025.” On the other hand, Danish defender Andreas Christensen, injured during the first half of the season, is back in the Barça squad and is available to play in La Liga.

From today, players whose contracts expire on June 30 can negotiate with other clubs for the upcoming season. Some of the most notable players in this situation include Mohamed Salah, Luka Modric, Joshua Kimmich, Virgil van Dijk, Kevin de Bruyne, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Alexandre Lacazette. Some of them are close to extending their contracts with their current clubs, while others are in the sights of big European teams, and a few might be interested in new challenges in more exotic locations. Some transfers could be finalized during this winter transfer window before the end of their contracts.
In one of the first transfers of this winter market, Olympique Lyonnais announced on Tuesday evening the transfer of Brazilian striker Jeffinho to Botafogo, where he had been on loan since January 2024 for one year. The transfer amount is set at €5.3 million, with a 30% resale clause included in the contract. As a reminder, Botafogo and Lyon, as well as the Belgian club Molenbeek, are owned by the Eagle Football group, led by John Textor. The 25-year-old was initially transferred from Botafogo to Lyon in January 2023 for ten million euros. His contract with Lyon ran until June 30, 2027. Jeffinho will not leave a significant mark in the Rhône, having played only 19 Ligue 1 matches, scored two goals and provided three assists, in addition to two Coupe de France matches (a goal).
