Revaluation of retirement pensions

Good news for retirees on January 1st. Retirement pensions will in fact be increased by 2.2%, in line with inflation, from today. This being one of the results of the censorship of Michel Barnier's government, making it impossible to adopt the 2025 Social Security Budget project.

Retirement

Employees of the RATP, the electricity and gas industries, clerks and employees of notaries, and the Banque de France see their legal retirement age gradually shifted by two years. Their special schemes were abolished in September 2023 when the pension reform was adopted.

RSA

Beneficiaries of active solidarity income (RSA) will now be registered with France Travail and therefore automatically registered as job seekers. Their RSA payment is now conditional on compulsory 15 hours of work per week. This concerns 1.2 million more people registered with France Travail.

Tickets-restaurant

The use of restaurant vouchers to purchase products that are not directly consumable (flour, pasta, rice or even meat) is now impossible. Only cooked meals, tomatoes and sandwiches can be purchased using restaurant vouchers.

The price of tobacco is increasing

The price of a packet of tobacco is increasing again. The increase will be different depending on the manufacturers and products. This means up to one euro more on packs of 20 cigarettes. Thus, the majority of packets of cigarettes will cost 12.50 euros.

Other measures in Lyon

In Lyon, other measures also come into force on January 1, 2025. The Low Emission Zone is now extended to Crit'Air 3 in the Lyon Metropolis. According to the community, this concerns 46,800 vehicles, or 11% of the private vehicle fleet.

The TCL ticket is also increasing at the start of the year. The single TCL ticket will now be priced at €2.10 compared to €2 currently. The 24-64 year old subscription goes from €72.60 to €74.10. The TCL network also extends to 31 additional municipalities.

Presented last March, the new solidarity pricing for drinking water in the Lyon Metropolis comes into force this Wednesday. In addition, a third pricing bracket has now been introduced and provides for a doubling of the traditional rate beyond 180 m3 of water consumed per year. Professionals will have 4 installments. Finally, solidarity pricing for the most precarious users will come into force.
