In this new year, we have listed our wishes for RC Lens in 2025.
A victory in the derby
We’re going to set the scene, Lille supporters certainly have more reasons to celebrate than their Lens neighbors at the moment. Beyond the dynamics of the two teams, the results in the last derbies are also quite significant. Indeed, Lens has not won any of its last 5 derbies against Lille (3 defeats, 2 draws). Like the impression that the three victories against the Mastiffs in 2021/2022 are only distant memories. Let’s hope to see real opposition during the return match, scheduled for March 30 (date to be defined), at Pierre-Mauroy.
A serial scorer
Since its comeback, we cannot say that Lens has collected serial scorers. Apart from Loïs Openda, and perhaps Arnaud Kalimuendo to a lesser extent, no leading striker stood out. Even less at the moment, in a season where the RCL is struggling to exist offensively. Labeau-Lascary, Satriano and even Saïd injured, Sotoca more at the level, only Nzola is holding the house, but that’s far too little. When will Jonathan David or Alexandre Lacazette from Lens be?
Qualification for the European Cup
Since its comeback in 2020, Lens has each time been involved in the fight for a European place until the end of the championship. Basically, the supporters have always been kept in suspense until the outcome of the championship, and the club has never seen its season devoid of challenges. It should not start this season, even if a new cycle has started. Aiming for the top 5 will be very complicated, especially if the team is weakened this winter, but 6th-7th place could be playable. Whether in the Europa League or the Conference League, Lens must absolutely continue its adventures in the European Cup to progress.
Buying a Bollaert-Delelis in unison
Apart from sports, it is a debate which has come up insistently in Lens: the atmosphere. Much criticized recently, the atmosphere of Bollaert-Delelis should not be less feared by adversaries, and less recognized by the general public. The artesian lair has always been praised for its warmth and fervor, and it must not lose that, even less when the results go badly. Let us therefore hope that 2025 puts an end to the debates on the atmosphere of the stadium, and for that, we will have to count on all the supporters present at home. In addition, this year will undoubtedly allow Lens to finalize its objective of purchasing the stadium, and thus enter the very closed circle of clubs that own their venues.
New investors
Following on from the purchase of the stadium, one of the objectives stated by Lens and President Joseph Oughourlian is to bring in new investors. A big boost which seems vital for the club, affected by the TV rights crisis, but also by the desire of its president not to walk alone. In September 2023, Side Invest arrived bringing 20 million euros, or 13% of the capital. Several months ago, the American group Isos, a sports and entertainment specialist, was due to take 25% of the club for around fifty million euros, but the deal ultimately collapsed. Paying for revenge…
