In a message broadcast on the social networks Facebook and “prohibit any unauthorized festive gathering of a musical nature – free party, rave party, teknival – and the circulation of any vehicle transporting sound equipment to unauthorized festive gatherings of a musical nature throughout the department”.

Spotted by our colleagues from the regional daily The Western Courier, these restrictive measures are taken “to ensure the safety of all”. In force for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, the order applies until Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 8 a.m.

“Concordant information elements”

The prefect's chief of staff, Emmanuelle Dubée, relies on “available and consistent pieces of information” : these confirm that“one or more festive gatherings of a musical nature are likely to take place in the Deux-Sèvres department from Tuesday December 31, 2024 to Thursday January 2, 2025”.

And Benoît Ready notes that, although obligatory, “no declaration has been filed […] specifying the expected number of participants as well as the measures envisaged by the organizer to guarantee safety, health, hygiene and public peace.

The last known events of this kind in Deux-Sèvres occurred during the month of November 2024, first in Saint-Maurice-Étusson, then in Échiré. At the end, the gendarmes issued fines: nearly 400 in the first case, around thirty in the second.

Fireworks under surveillance

Another prefectural decree, initialed the previous Friday, December 20 for implementation the next day, is in force until the same Thursday, January 2, 2025, also at 8 a.m.

This administrative act regulates “strongly the sale, transportation, use of fireworks as well as the retail sale and transportation of fuels, acids and other flammable, chemical or explosive products”.
