The New York Rangers have announced that they are recalling Quebec goaltender Louis Domingue, who plays for the Hortford Wolf Pack in the American League.
The Rangers have placed Igor Shesterkin on injured reserve with a lower body injury.
Shesterkin started the Blueshirts’ 5-3 loss Monday to the Florida Panthers. The goalkeeper then allowed four goals. Shesty has only won eleven of his 27 outings this season.
Domingue is also having a more difficult season in the AHL. In 14 games, he has four wins and has a goals against average of 3.64, as well as an efficiency of 0.888.
End of purgatory for Jeff Skinner
After being scratched from the Edmonton Oilers’ lineup in Sunday’s 5-3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks, forward Jeff Skinner will be in uniform for tonight’s game against the Utah Hockey Club .
Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch did not reveal who would be passed over in favor of Skinner.
The 32-year-old is struggling in his first season with the Oilers, having only collected six goals and six assists and posting a minus-11 rating in 35 games.
Skinner signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Oilers over the summer.
Letang still absent
Veteran Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kristopher Letang will likely be out again tonight against the Detroit Red Wings due to an undisclosed injury.
Letang also missed Sunday’s game against the New York Islanders.
The 37-year-old, who is in his 19th season with the Penguins, plays an average of 23:24 minutes per game and has seven goals and nine assists in 34 games.
Dumba ready to return to the game
The Dallas Stars removed defenseman Matt Dumba from the injured list on Tuesday.
The veteran will therefore be able to face the Buffalo Sabers in the evening.
This will be Dumba’s first match since December 8, after he had to deal with an upper body injury.
Marshall Rifai recalled to Toronto
The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled Montreal defenseman Marshall Rifai from the American League on Saturday, a few hours before the game against the New York Islanders in the afternoon.
Rifai joins the big club as they have to make do without defender Oliver Ekman-Larsson and striker Pontus Holmberg, both ill.
To make room for Rifai in his lineup, captain Auston Matthews was placed on the injured list, retroactive to December 20. This decision is purely administrative and does not mean there is a setback in the fitness of Matthews, who is nursing an upper body injury. Matthews is eligible to return to play at any time.
Matthews has missed the team’s last four games after aggravating the injury that kept him sidelined for nine games earlier in the season.
Matthews still has a chance to return for Thursday’s game against the Islanders on Long Island.
