Ahead of the rest of the world. Some countries such as New Zealand and Australia have already moved to 2025. The two countries have a time difference of twelve and ten hours respectively with France.
As such, Sydney – capital of Australia – is nicknamed the “New Year capital of the world”. As is tradition, the new year was celebrated with an impressive fireworks display above the Sydney Opera House and the Harbor Bridge. More than a million people gathered to admire it.
Tahiti and Hawaii latecomers
Before that, Pacific islands, such as the Samoa Islands, entered 2025 at 11 a.m. (GMT). When it was 4 p.m. in France, it was China’s turn to ring in the new year, just like Taiwan.
Other time zones will be the opposite in 2025 after France. This is particularly the case in the United States. Residents of New York will wish each other a Happy New Year tomorrow at 6 a.m. (GMT) and residents of Los Angeles at 9 a.m. (GMT). The furthest behind remain Tahiti and Hawaii, which will pass in 2025 at 11 a.m. metropolitan time.
