When in 2021, Olympique de Marseille recruited Pedro Ruiz Delgado, Pablo Longoria had the ambition to revive the young striker who was plagued by injuries, but the bet quickly turned into failure. Nicknamed the “ghost recruit”, the Spaniard would never wear the Marseille jersey until his departure last summer. While he has just announced the end of his career, Pedro Ruiz Delgado returned to his ordeal.
In the summer of 2021, Marseille Olympic took a gamble by going for Pedro Ruiz Delgado, then 21 years old, arriving from the reserve team of the Real Madrid. Loaned to Dutch D1 club NEC Nijmegen for the first year, the striker quickly inherited the inglorious nickname “ghost rookie”. And for good reason, Pedro Ruiz Delgado never played a single minute in the jersey loon until the end of his contract last summer, the fault of repeated physical problems which forced him to announce the end of his career this Friday. Questioned by the daily ASthe Spaniard returned to his long ordeal, notably during his Marseille adventure which was supposed to revive him.
“Longoria gave me life”

“I lost the illusion of playing football again”

It was only at the last moment that I lost the illusion of playing football again », continues Pedro Ruiz Delgadowho therefore announced the end of his career at only 24 years old, he who had not found a club after his departure from loon.
