In the summer of 2021, Marseille Olympic took a gamble by going for Pedro Ruiz Delgado, then 21 years old, arriving from the reserve team of the Real Madrid. Loaned to Dutch D1 club NEC Nijmegen for the first year, the striker quickly inherited the inglorious nickname “ghost rookie”. And for good reason, Pedro Ruiz Delgado never played a single minute in the jersey loon until the end of his contract last summer, the fault of repeated physical problems which forced him to announce the end of his career this Friday. “I lost the illusion of playing football again”
