Sensibilis’haie takes root in Saint-Loup-sur-Aujon

Environment. The smiles and the will were very present in Saint-Loup-sur-Aujon. Like a gift to the planet, the students of the Saint-Loup-sur-Aujon school participated in the planting of 50 m of hedges behind their school as part of the “Sensibilis’haie” operation, supported by the National Federation of Hunters and co-financed by the French Biodiversity Office.

With the plan to plant a total of 210 m of hedge between the school and the new homes located in Courcelles-sur-Aujon, the municipality found support from the Departmental Federation of Hunters to carry out this planting. Thanks to this participatory and citizen hedge planting operation reserved for local authorities carried out by the Haute- Hunters' Federation engaged with the National Federation, this first hundred plants are just waiting to flourish. Common juniper, hawthorn, blackthorn, wild apple trees, wood privet, elderberry, the diversity present among these species of the Great East guarantees a future beautiful biodiversity explained on an educational panel indicating the interests of the hedge and the services it provides, offered by FDC 52.

A valuable ally for biodiversity

On December 19, the students began with a first educational part discussed in class with Léa Bettinger, apprentice in ecological engineering at FDC52 helped by Florian Ameline in civic service. Use of the hedge, presentation of the Haute-Marne Hunters' Federation, awareness of flora, this science lesson allowed the students to better understand this element, one of the most important in the hunting landscape. They recalled the benefits of the hedge which serves as both a refuge from bad weather, predators and a nesting site as well as the importance of the different layers of the hedge. Divided into three groups, the apprentice gardeners came alternately to plant. “This is so good, look at an earthworm here!” A woodlice over there! “. Motivation and knowledge of the natural environment were present throughout the planting.

Give and take

If the Haut-Marne Federation has undertaken to provide free hedge plants and the educational panel, the municipality also wishes to show the interest and the desire to act in favor of the hedge. The National Hunters' Federation undertakes to provide free of charge the necessary communication materials (flyer, video, panel) and plants (50 plants per hedge) to any voluntary community.
