What is Epiphany?

This holiday commemorates seeking and worshiping of the three wise men in front of the manger where Jesus was just born. In the Latin Church, the adoration of Jesus by the wise men gradually became the main object of the feast of Epiphany.

From the Ve century, the Western Church celebrated two events: the birth of Jesus December 25 (Christmas) and the manifestation to the pagans in the person of the wise men January 6.

Tradition has it that, on Three Kings Day, we share a cake in which is hidden a bean.

It exists in two kinds of king cake: in the North, it is a cake in the form of a flaky pancake very often filled with frangipane; and in the South, in Provence and in the South-West, a cake or brioche in the shape of a crown which evokes the crown of kings. In Provence, it is filled with candied fruits.
