With the planned drop in the interest rate on Livret A, here is the amount you will be able to claim if you hold 5,000 euros in this savings product.
It is the preferred financial investment of the French. With 57 million accounts opened, the Livret A is the savings most used by households. Its practicality is the main reason for its use: it is easy to place money on it, to withdraw it almost instantly, all without the slightest cost, generating some interest and with the guarantee of getting your investment back. Ideal for building up a little precautionary savings for everyday life.
However, it is difficult to calculate the amount of interest you receive at the end of the year. And for good reason: the calculation rule is a dark banking formula which takes into account the sums present in the booklet every 15 days. Added to this is a variation in rates. Currently at 3%, the yield should drop to 2.5% from 1is FEBRUARY. To save you from brain knots, here is the amount you can claim by holding 5,000 euros in this account.
The first situation is the simplest. Between 1is January and December 31, the amount does not change by a cent in your account: 5000 euros throughout the year. Not a single payment, not a single withdrawal. In 2025, taking into account the drop in yield, this will bring in €127.08. Net of tax since there is nothing to pay to the tax authorities on this amount.
In a second case, you hold 5000 euros on 1is January. In March, you are forced to make a withdrawal of 500 euros and you can only put them back into Livret A in May. In July, for the holidays, you withdraw 1000 euros, then an additional 500 euros in August for the start of the school year. It is only in October and November that you manage to replenish the accounts. At the end of the year, the interest will therefore be a little lower and will fall to €114.58.
In a third case, you abound, all 1is of the month, your Livret A of €50 to reach 5,000 euros in the account in December 2025. In this situation, your capital increases little by little and will allow you to earn, in the end, €119.98.
Overall, around 120 euros are paid at the end of the year into a Livret A containing around 5,000 euros throughout the year, even in the event of some variations.
