After a first day this Wednesday, two Provençal departments remain on red alert regarding air pollution. Vaucluse and Bouches-du-Rhône are maintained at this alert level for Thursday. Indeed, air quality continues to deteriorate due to “stable and not very dispersive weather conditions with emissions of pollutants linked to domestic heating and road traffic at the end of the day“, specifies the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture.
Var, which was affected on Wednesday, is no longer under surveillance.
Reduced speed on the roads
For departments still on red alert, a series of measures will therefore still apply on January 2.
Anti-pollution measures:
- Lowering of maximum speeds authorized on all roads by 20 km/h, without falling below 70 km/h
- Postponement of maintenance or cleaning work carried out with non-electric tools (mower, hedge trimmer, etc.) or products based on organic solvents (white spirit, paint, etc.)
- Temperature control in buildings (heating or air conditioning)
- Compliance with the ban on open burning of green waste
- Postponement of mineral and organic fertilizer applications
Several health recommendations are also issued by the prefectures such as reducing outdoor sporting activities, limiting the use of automobiles or even postponing travel.
“Due to stable and not very dispersive weather conditions with emissions of pollutants linked to domestic heating and road traffic at the end of the day“, underlines the prefecture of Vaucluse.
