An Air Canada plane had to make an emergency landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport on Saturday evening after a problem with its landing gear.
Flight 2259, which was flying from St. John's Airport to Halifax, encountered difficulties landing around 9:30 a.m. AST (01:30 GMT Sunday), causing the plane to skid and cause an engine fire. Emergency services quickly intervened to ensure the safety of passengers.
A passenger, Nikki Valentine, told CBC News that one of the tires did not deploy properly during landing. “The plane tilted 20 degrees to the left and we heard a loud noise, almost like a crash, as the wing slid down the runway, probably from the engine,” she said. .
After landing, the passengers were evacuated and directed to a hangar where they were attended to by paramedics. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. As a safety precaution, flights were temporarily suspended at the Halifax airport, but the runway was reopened early Sunday morning.
