the extension of Luis de la Fuente is slipping, the federation does not want to overpay

After his very good year at the head of La Roja and his Euro victory, Luis de la Fuente would like to obtain a salary increase. According to information from Cadena SER this Friday, the demands of the current Spanish coach would be too high for the Federation: he would aim for a salary similar to that of his predecessor Luis Enrique.

On a series of fifteen matches without defeat, a Euro won and five places gained in a single year in the Fifa rankings… Luis de la Fuente has some good arguments to put forward. Already extended until 2026 at the head of La Roja, with a view to the next World Cup organized in the United States, Canada and Mexico, the Spanish coach would like to sign a new contract, which would include a two-year extension – i.e. until 2026. 'in 2028 – and above all a clear salary increase.

If the latter was promised to Luis de la Fuente in the event of a Euro victory, the Spanish media Cadena SER reports that Rafael Louzan, new president of the Royal Spanish Federation (RFEF), is ready to make a financial effort, after have received the approval of its Board of Directors.

De La Fuente wants Luis Enrique's old salary

With an annual salary estimated at one million euros, Luis de la Fuente would like to “earn what Luis Enrique received”, or three million euros per year. But according to Cadena SER, the RFEF is aiming not to cross the two million euro mark: “They are not considering aligning the salary with that of the other best coaches in Europe, because they consider it as out of the market.”

Thanks in particular to his well-rounded CV, Luis Enrique “had a cachet that a local coach does not have”, adds the Spanish media. But La Roja's latest performances do not leave one indifferent, so “the first conversations have already taken place”, confirms one of our colleagues from Cadena SER.

Before adding: “Neither the Federation, nor Louzán nor the management want to lose De la Fuente. For this reason, Pedro Rocha's promise is kept and his contract will be improved.” Enough to see a little more clearly.
