A large fire broke out around 2 a.m. on the night of Tuesday 3 to Wednesday 4 December 2024in the municipality of Saint-Fulgent-des-Ormes (Orne), on the border with Sarthe.
It was at the Champs Romet farm, known for its meats and local products, that the fire started, in an industrial building used for meat processing.
In total, 600 of the 1200 m² of building were destroyed. Considerable damage which put 30 employees on technical unemployment.
A growing farm
The farm has grown significantly in recent years, with cattle, sheep and pig production, but also with poultry and vegetables, notably offered for direct sale.
The company, which employs up to 33 employees, had just been rewarded with an Entrepreneurial Performance prize by the Banque populaire Grand Ouest.
Major emergency resources
Significant emergency resources are still mobilized at 9 a.m. this December 4: 42 firefighters are on site, coming from Bellême, Mauves-sur-Huisne, Alençon, Mortagne-au-Perche, Moulins-la-Marche, Saint-Côsme -en-Vairais, Ferté-Bernard, Mamers, Domfront and Le-Theil-sur-Huisne.
