In May 2024, the oldest game show on French television announced its end. Just a few weeks later, the show “Des chiffres et des lettres” experienced a new twist: it could be bought by the rival channel C8. The rumor, launched by the “JDD” and republished on “Public”, speaks of a takeover by Cyril Hanouna.

The famous game would therefore be given a new lease of life thanks to C8, which has already taken over several games such as “Le maillon faible” or “Une famille en or”. If the channel’s director, Franck Appietto, has not yet confirmed the news, we know that the program’s producer Patrice Laffont already knows the C8 family: he was a columnist for a few “Touche pas à mon poste” shows in autumn 2020, under the leadership of Cyril Hanouna.

After nearly 60 years of broadcasting, “Des chiffres et des lettres” was only broadcast on weekends on France 3. The director of antennas and programs of France Télévisions, Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez, had announced the end of the show during an interview with the “Tribune Dimanche”. He explained in particular that “the transition of the game to the weekend slot in 2022 was not crowned with success”; his comments had been relayed by TV5 Monde.
