This Tuesday, thousands of teachers took to the streets to demonstrate against the new measures decided by the Walloon government formed by the MR and Les Engagés.
Among these measures: one which particularly affects teachers, that which concerns pensions. On the set of RTL info 7 p.m., the Minister of Education Valérie Glatigny was invited to speak on the subject. Is the government really going to touch teachers’ pensions?
“Obviously we will not withdraw the nomination from someone who is appointed“, says Valérie Glatigny. “There will be a transition period. What drives us is the fact that there is a significant exodus of young teachers because when they arrive in the profession, they go from temporary to temporary and quickly leave the profession.“, she notes.
To anchor them in the profession, the minister then offers a “teaching permanent contract”. “It will be a tailor-made permanent contract for teachers, without loss of benefits. The aim is for their pensions to be equivalent to those received by already appointed teachers. We will also work on a scale revaluation and adjustments for the beginnings and ends of careers.“, she explains.
Currently, “one in three young teachers who leave the profession within five years“, notes the minister to argue for her measure.
