Tour de France: Romain Bardet “a little disappointed” after just one day in yellow

Romain Bardet’s adventure in yellow on the Tour only lasted one day. “It was a special experience,” savoured the Auvergne climber, inevitably “a little disappointed” to give up his beautiful jersey to Tadej Pogacar, already in command on this Tour.

Only 22nd in the stage, this Sunday in Bologna, 21” from Tadej Pogacar, 14th at the finish, Romain Bardet lost his beautiful tunic. A yellow jersey that the Slovenian will wear on Monday on the 3rd stage for six short seconds.

The Yellow Jersey gave way on the second climb of the San Luca hill, a formidable wall (10.6% on average, over almost 2 kilometers), placed in the final.

Slightly unhooked after the work of the team-mates of the big leaders, Romain Bardet was unable to respond to the lightning attack of Tadej Pogacar (UAE) in sight of the summit of San Luca, 13 kilometers from the finish.

“A special experience”

“It was a really great day and riding with the yellow jersey was a really special experience,” said the Auvergne climber. “At the time, I’m a little disappointed to have lost it of course, especially by a few seconds, but I tried to give it my all and the team did a really good job supporting me all day.”

“I am very happy that there are two French victories already,” he added, waiting to be able to seize a new opportunity to show himself at the forefront.
