Crews were making good progress Saturday on the Darlene 3 fire in central Oregon. It covered 15 square kilometers and was 50% controlled on Saturday morning.
The weather aided firefighting efforts. Light winds, cooler temperatures and high humidity overnight contributed to firefighters’ progress. This also allowed the Deschutes County, Oregon Sheriff’s Office to lower the evacuation level for Newberry Estates from Level 3 to Level 2. All other evacuation notices were lifted for the area as of west of Highway 97.
