A man in his thirties has been charged with voluntary manslaughter after his wife fell from the 8th floor of a building in Bouscat, near Bordeaux.

A new femicide to deplore. A 42-year-old woman died during the night from Wednesday to Thursday after falling from the 8th floor of her building in Bouscat (Gironde). Her partner, a “marginal” known to the police, was arrested immediately afterwards and placed in police custody, according to police sources. He was clearly drunk.

A judicial investigation was opened and the accused “was charged with murder by a common-law partner and unauthorized possession of narcotics,” said the Bordeaux prosecutor’s office.

An individual known to the police

Initially, it was information for “research into the causes of death” which was opened, before being reclassified.

The individual is the subject of a “provisional incarceration order” pending a debate on Tuesday before the judge of freedoms and detention, specified the same source. He was already wanted in an investigation for rape of a minor in Charente-Maritime.

On average, a femicide occurs every three days in France. According to the Minister of Justice, Eric Dupont-Moretti, there were 94 femicides in 2023. There were 118 in 2022.
