Without shaking hands, outgoing Democratic President Biden and his Republican rival Trump engaged in fierce exchanges for about 90 minutes.

They debated a range of topics, including U.S. economic policy, immigration and border issues, abortion rights, foreign policy, health care and climate change.

Both candidates accused each other of being unfit to serve as president of the United States.

Although he spoke longer than Mr. Biden, Mr. Trump did not answer some questions directly and his statements contained many exaggerations and falsehoods.

Many viewers complained on social media, calling the debate “disaster”of “catastrophe” and of “waste of time“, expressing their concerns about the future of the United States.

Numerous polls show that the majority of American voters are wary of a new Biden – Trump clash in the 2024 presidential election, with the proportion of voters with a negative opinion of the two candidates having reached its highest level in 30 years .

The second presidential debate for the US election next November, organized by ABC, will take place on September 10.
