Drones, helicopters: firefighters on alert against the fires – 8 p.m. newspaper

We have to move quickly, it’s a question of survival. In the shelter, the firefighters are protected from the fire by a bubble of water. But it’s just an exercise, you have to start again before each installation. “The rehearsal is done regularly with the aim of maintaining reflexes because it is a safety maneuver,” explains deputy head Jordi Bonnefille – Rescue Center in Prades, to the 8 p.m. news on TF1. In the Pyrénées-Orientales, the fires of 2023 are still remembered. But the firefighters are ready to face them during this new season which still promises to be risky with the drought. For greater efficiency, units are already pre-positioned near forest areas. And to save time, a new system has just been put in place. It is a flexible tank of 120 m3 of water, the equivalent of ten trucks. In five minutes, everything is ready. It takes about nine minutes to fill a tanker truck. Around ten reservoirs will then be installed in the department to secure access to water, despite the drought. And to guide troops on the ground, a plane can help them from the air to find the most accessible trails in the forest or show them during a fire the areas that have become very dangerous due to drought.
