In a year without the World Cup but with the CAN and the Olympic Games, the African Ballon d’Or seems to be open this year with the absence of stars and winners of previous editions Mohamed Salah, Riyad Mahrez and Victor Osimhen. Today, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has just revealed the list of 5 finalists for the 2024 African Ballon d’Or, now called the best African player award. Among the nominees are Ademola Lookman (Atalanta Bergamo), Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund), Achraf Hakimi (PSG), Simon Adingra (Brighton) and Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns). The winner should be named at the end of the year during the CAF Awards ceremony, rewarding the best players, coaches and clubs on the African continent. Triple scorer in the final against Bayer Leverkusen to offer the Europa League to Atalanta, Ademola Lookman appears to be the big favorite to win this title.
The list of 10 nominees
Last October, a list of 10 players was revealed with Amine Gouiri, Edmond Tapsoba, Chancel Mbemba, Soufiane Rahimi, and William Troost-Ekong. Morocco and Nigeria were the most represented countries with two players each.
