Marie-Hélène Thoraval, the mayor of Romans-sur-Isère, evokes the still “fragile” peace which reigns in Drôme a year after the death of Thomas in Crépol. The 16-year-old was then stabbed to death on the sidelines of a local dance.
A memory that is still difficult a year later. The mayor of Romans-sur-IsèreMarie-Hélène Thoraval, explained this Monday, November 18 on BFMTV that “the atmosphere remains very heavy” in her city, a year after the murder of Thomas, 16, during a ball organized in the village hall of the small neighboring village of Crépol.
“Things are a little calmer, a little more peaceful, but we know that this form of appeasement, of tranquility, is extremely fragile since it can change from one minute to the next,” she explains to microphone of BFMTV.
“A form of omerta”
According to her, the trauma is too great for residents to feel calm, despite several arrests in this case. “Are all the culprits behind bars?” she asks our microphone, while the author of the fatal stabbing has still not been identified.
“We cannot say that Justice is not doing its job. The arrests were made within a fairly short period of time (…),” she declared.
But for the elected official, there is an “omerta” which prevents the population from feeling better and moving forward.
And the death of Nicolas, 22 years old and also a member of the club Rugby Club Romanais Péageois (RCRP)during a shooting on the night of October 31 to November 1 in front of a nightclub in Saint-Péray (Drôme), a handful of kilometers from Crépol, reignited the pain.
Death of Nicolas in Ardèche: the RC Romans-Péage club once again bereaved
A stele in tribute to the young man was unveiled this Sunday in Crépol. Those close to Thomas did not want any publicity around the event.
