Broadcast from 2015 to 2020 on Canal +, The Legends Office was a real success with the public and was praised by critics. The French spy series written by Eric Rochant takes us into the corridors of the Directorate General for External Security (DGSE) and into the daily life of clandestine agents like Guillaume Debailly, alias Paul Lefebvre, alias Malotru, masterfully played by Matthieu Kassovitz.
The fiction, which has 5 seasons, has not gone unnoticed on the other side of the Atlantic. Before long, an American version will, in fact, see the light of day under the name The Agency. Among the producers of the latter are Grant Heslov (Good Night and Good Luck, Dante’s Peak, True Lies) but also Hollywood star George Clooney.
Regarding the casting, some information is starting to leak. We learn that the main role of the series, that of Malotru in the French version, should be played by Michael Fassbender, a German actor revealed in 2008 by Hunger by British director Steve McQueen and who also stood out in Inglorious BasterdsIn Steve Jobs or Twelve Years a Slave. The actor will play Martian, an undercover CIA agent recalled to London HQ. “Michael Fassbender is one of the most gifted actors of our time. He brings gravitas and nuanced complexity to every character he plays, which is why we’re so happy he’s starring in The Agency”explained Chris McCarthy, CEO of MTV Entertainment Group, production company of the series.
Currently filmed in London, the series should resemble the original in a few details if its synopsis is to be believed. “When the love he left behind reappears, romance is reborn. His career, his true identity, and his mission clash with his heart, throwing them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.” Enough to make us, in fact, think about the romance between Malotru and Nadia El Mansour.
The future broadcasters of The Agency will be Paramount + and Showtime. At this stage, no information on a broadcast in Belgium has been mentioned.
