His last visit dates back to 2012. Monday June 17 and Tuesday June 18, 2024, the author of children’s literature and comics returned to see the students of the elementary school which has borne his name since 2007. Yvan Pommaux is a physique that is reminiscent of that of a certain Cabu. “In 2006, the students voted to choose the name of their school,” recalls Jean-Michel Raballand, the director of the elementary school in the town since 2007. That same year, the designer was present at the baptism of the school. school. “The goal was to have him come back every five years,” continues the teacher. Which was the case in 2012.

Then time passed, just like the Covid-19 health crisis. And the creator of “Marion Duval” and “Angelot du lac” returned to Saint-Xandre this June to meet the 271 students who attend the 12 classes of the school that bears his name. “I’m very bad at colors. My wife Nicole is in charge of my comics. She is merciless on my drawings. She often tells me: “but you’re not going to publish that all the same”,” confided the designer.

An original board as a gift

The numerous original and dedicated drawings left on the walls of the Saint-Xandre school bear witness to the author’s passage. As is still the case this June 17: “I decided to offer you this original board. » Even if it has become a sort of ritual, Jean-Michel Raballand does not hide both his joy and his surprise. “We were the ones who planned to give him gifts. »

Yvan Pommaux spent two days meeting students and answering their questions in groups. “I wanted to be an artist. For me, it was never a question of doing anything else. I was born with a pencil in my hands. »

The artist’s visit to the village school and the adjoining library has been organized for many months. So much so that a sort of signposted route marked by pebbles in the courtyard of the establishment, based on the author’s latest work “Where were you before”, was imagined by the students and teachers .
