[UP] I finally have the right to tell you about it! During last summer's Gamescom, I had the chance to discover the big new features of version 0.2 of Gray Zone Warfare. The latter brings the day/night cycle as well as a range of improvements. You can find all the information and my opinion below. This major update takes place today and will arrive on November 27. Everything is revealed via a new trailer.
Also on the occasion of Gamescom 2024, I had the opportunity to visit MADFINGER Games to discover the future update of Gray Zone Warfare. 0.2 to be more precise. The opportunity to see new images of the game, discover some of the new features, but also make a first contact with the developers who are very involved in the project and who rely heavily on feedback from the community. A few months ago, I suggested to you a first opinion on the game. One thing is certain, GZW is certainly the most serious project in terms of military realism that I have seen in my life. As a reminder, we are talking here about an Extraction Shooter which takes place in the middle of the jungle.
Day/night cycle, night vision
This is perhaps the biggest flaw of the game, especially if you play the latter a lot, Gray Zone Warfare only offers (so far) daytime clashes. All this will soon end since the day/night cycle is currently in development. Better yet, everything is designed around the latter. Night vision glasses will be available or even flashlights. As you can imagine, lasers are also involved with several specificities. While some are only visible with night vision helmets, others are visible to the naked eye. Apart from precision, these offer a tactical dimension, for example you can make circles in the sky to call your friends to join you.
Personal note, I was amazed by the realism of the night vision. Here it is not a “beast” green filter that appears on your screen. No, in the image you will have a circle that takes up 30% of your screen with a rather blurry greenish vision. The rest (your peripheral vision) is normal, be careful though, the latter will only be clear in the extremities.
Best of all, when it gets dark, you can shoot all the lights in the game or even cut the power to all the buildings via electrical panels.
IA
Artificial intelligence is a problem in Gray Zone Warfare. The team in charge of the project is aware and works enormously on improving it. As you might expect, at night, things will be even more different, especially in terms of the vision of your enemies. But the developers are confident and are doing everything to offer something “naturel.”
That's not all, at night, the “bots” will go to bed for example, there will be fewer of them in the street. A real feeling of life will be felt.
Still as beautiful with a more diversified menu
I'm not going to spend too much time on the subject, but Gray Zone Warfare 0.2 looks terribly beautiful. The day/night cycle is dressed in a thousand different colors with different shades. My favorite was the Milky Way, clearly visible in the middle of the night.
I was personally amazed by the lighting effects at night. From tracer bullets to the shadow left by the silencer which blocks the light diffused by the flashlight fixed on the barrel of the weapon.
In addition to being pretty, this major update will bring changes to the map. Please note, there is no question of enlarging the latter here. On the contrary, the studio wants to make it denser with elements placed in different locations and loot in larger quantities. Speaking of hardware, I was informed that new weapons will be offered. Very good news.
Account reset and availability
Important note, the developers entrusted me to also work on the game's quests and rewards. Unfortunately, the economy will also undergo a change which makes it obligatory to reset the accounts.
Note that 0.2 will be available in the coming months. We will receive a test version in the coming weeks to prepare you a new opinion on the subject with the opportunity to discover in detail all the new features.
Finally, know that you can grab Gray Zone Warfare right now on PC via Steam.
