The images are impressive. This Saturday, November 9, a major landslide occurred on the heights from Amélie-les-Bains-Palaldain the Pyrénées-Orientales. An entire section of the mountain has collapsed onto a small road in Vallespir. The latter was destroyed and logically closed to traffic.

“There is no more road”

“As you can see, there is no more road.” It is via the Facebook account of his municipality that Marie Costa announced the news to its residents. Helpless, the mayor (SE) of Amélie-les-Bains-Palalda noted with amazement the new major landslide which occurred on the territory of his village last weekend.

A big collapse occurred on departmental road 83B, more commonly called “the road to Mas Pagris” south of Amélie-les-Bains. The mountain has completely disappeared, taking with it this axis which runs along the Mondony gorges, for several tens of meters:

“I have banned access to the premises by order. Our technical teams are responsible for the barrier,” continues Marie Costa, who warns: “the mountain is still moving”.

The reconstruction promises to be “very understood”

And no injuries have been reportedthe city immediately closed the RD 83B from the “carrefour del salt de l’aigua”, until further notice. “Any pedestrian or cyclist entering the area despite the aforementioned ban does so at their own risk,” specifies the municipality.

In all likelihood, several months, if not several years, of work will be necessary to secure this road. Joined by News PerpignanMayor Costa doesn’t even show much concern anymore. “We don’t know if this will be possible. The route to reconstructing the road looks set to be very well understood,” explains the elected official.

Regular threats in the sector

In the Amélie-les-Bains area, around ten residents are concerned by the future of this road. To reach the city and their property, they will now have to carry out a twenty kilometer detourby Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans. Until when? That is the question now.

While meetings are planned soon, This is a major new project for Amélie-les-Bains-Palalda, who had to face, at the start of the year, the closure of the RD 115 (the main road), while rocks threatened to fall from the cliff.

More generally, Marie Costa had testified to her fed up, denouncing the state ofa road “worthy of the third world” (read above). The mayor of Amélie-les-Bains-Palalda called for work and, more broadly, a real investment for this major axis of Haut-Vallespir.
