It's already time to find the Silo on Apple TV+. More than a year after the broadcast of the first ten episodes, the American platform delivers the continuation of the journey for the adaptation of Hugh Howey's novels. If the pandemic has delayed the process somewhat, everything is ready for the start of season 2 this Friday, November 15. In a few hours, spectators will be able to find the project with a simple, but devilishly effective, recipe. A story of confinement, the fear of a popular uprising surrounding the creation of the Silo and what is happening inside, the first burst of episodes did not leave a minute of respite. In ten episodesthe elements of context and narrative questions were numerous, enough to confuse the spectators when it was time to pick things up where they left off. Here are the things not to forget before discovering episode 1 of season 2.
The exterior is unlivable, but we don't know why…
Like any self-respecting post-apocalyptic story, Silo evolves around a cataclysmic event that forced humanity to turn in on itself and adopt drastic measures. For several hundred years, what remains of humanity has lived in a huge building 144-story undergroundgoverned by a strict organization and organized into castes. The workers are on the lowest floors while the large institutions are on the highest. The only contact the inhabitants have with the outside world is a huge screen which broadcasts images of the surface wastelands.
The exterior is unlivable and those who venture there, after having expressly requested it, always end up collapsing within a few minutes. Before that, they all clean the camera to allow the people left inside to see the outside again. The entire first season revolved around the reality of the outside world, after the sheriff's wife discovered the video of a lush hillside. She — like many others — was convinced that the thinking heads of the Silo hid the truth from the inhabitants and that the surface was completely livable. Juliette Nichols, named Sheriff after the latter's death, will discover that this is not the case. The air is unbreathable and the images on the hard drive are in fact those projected in the helmet to encourage people who are sent outside to clean the camera.
The IT Department governs everything
The hierarchy of Silowhich wants the mayor and justice to be at the highest levels of society, is nothing but a vast hoax. In the shadows, it is the IT Department and in particular Bernard who works to prevent a new uprising of the most popular classes. Bernard also seems to be one of the few to truly know the reasons behind the creation of the Silo. He also has in his possession a key to a huge vault from where he observes all the inhabitants.
All floors are peppered with microphones and cameras, allowing the IT Department and Sims' militia to stay one step ahead of the rebels and manipulate the police. We also know that the IT Department has several prohibited items, artifacts from the past. It should also be noted that the organization also openly lies to residents of the Silo, by not removing the contraceptives from some women who win the baby lottery. The series has not yet specified the criteria involved, but it is a safe bet that the question of eugenics, central in the anticipation stories, will once again be at the epicenter of the story.
Juliette is out
If the beginning of the series evolved mainly around Sheriff Holston, it is ultimately Juliette Nichols who carries the series on his shoulders. It is also thanks to her that production finally escapes from the cozy interiors of the Silo. After being sent outside, against her will, the character does not die like her predecessors. Indeed, thanks to the support of his friends from Department of Mechanicsshe took advantage of a truly airtight suit and a Very good quality adhesive tape. This is what allowed him to survive beyond the hill and therefore to discover that the Silo is just one silo among silos. Indeed, other underground infrastructures were visible in the last shot of the last episode. For spectators, the promise of learning more about the outside world seemed to have been made. Season 2, which is coming this Friday November 15 on Apple TV+, is therefore particularly anticipated.
