This morning the Einsiedeln fire department went to the wood chipping plant next to the Einsiedeln monastery. Heavy smoke was reported. A short time later, police and ambulances were also seen on site. There is no danger, said Roman Gisler, media spokesman for the Schwyz cantonal police, when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency.
Close doors and windows
Gisler explained that it was not a “recognizable fire,” but rather just a lot of smoke. The fire department has the situation under control. However, she assumes that the smoke will continue for a moment. It is recommended to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off ventilation and air conditioning in the area around Einsiedeln Monastery.
There was a fire in the facility two years ago
The heating system of the heating association caught fire two years ago (see report below). At that time, the contents of the schnitzel plant had to be cleared out and extinguished in order to contain the smoke.
