Mohamad Al Ballouz, accused of the 2nd degree murder of Synthia Bussières, the 1st degree murders of her two children and arson, has decided to represent herself for her jury trial, which is scheduled to begin on November 4.

The person who was born a man and who considers herself a woman today has repeatedly expressed her wish to represent herself, even though the judge strongly advised her not to do so.

Several times during the session on June 18, Ms. Al Ballouz asked why she was still detained while awaiting trial. She also asked that she be tried “alone with the judge”. The latter indicated that this was impossible, since the Criminal Code provides that a murder accused be tried before a jury if she pleads not guilty, which Ms. Al Ballouz did.

Shortly after her arrest, Ms. Al Ballouz was represented by Me Marc Labelle, until she informed him that she was withdrawing the warrant from him in January. She was subsequently assigned to Me Alexandra Longueville, but the latter made a request to no longer represent her in May.

Remember that Mohamad Al Ballouz was arrested in September 2022 after the bodies of Synthia Bussières and her two children, Éliam and Zac, were found lifeless in a home on Saint-Laurent Boulevard, in Brossard. In May, Ms. Al Ballouz hoped to stand trial on reduced charges of the unpremeditated murders of her two children, aged 2 and 5.
