The crazy prices of the Ford Mustang GTD propelled by European taxes

Ford opens order books for the Mustang GTD in Europe. Already high in Uncle Sam’s country, prices border on the unimaginable on the Old Continent due to high taxes. In Austria, the muscle car easily reaches half a million euros.

You will not have missed this: due to import taxes, American cars imported into Europe often see their prices skyrocket. This is the case of the very exclusive Ford Mustang GTD, which pushes vice to the point of unreasonableness. To measure inflation, let’s take as a reference the American price of the coupe, set at $325,000. A straw, compared to the prices charged in Europe! Yes yes, a straw…

Let’s start with Austria, the undisputed champion of the continent in this sad game. To afford the services of the Ford Mustang GTD, you will have to pay exactly €525,500 there, which directly catapults the muscle car into the pricing sphere of supercars. In comparison, a Lamborghini Revuelto starts at just over €500,000, without options, it is true. But still, it hurts extremely!

France attractive, Germany and Romania unbeatable

In France, the Mustang GTD comes – a little – to its senses since it asks for €364,900. Our Spanish friends, for their part, have to pay €398,500 when our Italian neighbors see a ticket set at €370,000 outright. But bargain hunters will especially fly in the direction of Germany or Romania where the GTD is exchanged for “only” €359,900. It’s quite simple, it’s the lowest price in all of Europe. But then, what can explain such a surge in prices compared to the United States?

Between transport, registration, insurance, customs duties, VAT and registration, the final bill can only explode. And all this without even counting the approval of the vehicle on European territory which is not always a given… In certain countries, it is indeed possible that the car will forever remain a vehicle only authorized on the track. And don’t expect to escape all this by going second-hand: prices are sure to be even higher in the months to come, whether here or on the other side of the Atlantic, elsewhere.
