Ander Herrera was apostrophized by a furious supporter that he extended his contract to Athletic Bilbao instead of returning to Real Zaragoza, where he began his career.

Ander Herrera does not give up. Quietly seated at a restaurant table on the terrace, the 34-year-old Spanish footballer was approached by a man who first greeted him. Except that this individual went on to criticize him for his decision to extend to Athletic (5th in Liga) rather than return to his training club, Real Zaragoza (15th in the Spanish second division).

“What Zaragocist you are eh!”, proclaimed the disgruntled supporter, who was filming the sequence with his phone. Furious, Ander Herrera then got up and presented himself in front of him, almost head to head to say: “What is -what do you have? What do you know about it?”

The rest of the confrontation is confusing, but the images suggest that the player was ready to come to blows. Ultimately, his loved ones had to intervene so that the situation did not degenerate further. The video, published on June 13 on social networks, went viral with more than 540,000 views.

Zaragoza did not make an offer

Back in Bilbao since 2022, after three seasons at Paris Saint-Germain and five at Manchester United, Ander Herrera was at the end of his contract this summer. There was then talk of a possible signing for Real Zaragoza, where he began his career in 2008.

But on Thursday June 13, Athletic announced a one-year contract extension, thus binding the two parties until June 2025. According to the newspaper El Correo, Real Zaragoza actually contacted him to talk to him about a sporting project, but without ever transmitting a concrete offer. What Isabel Collado, Ander Herrera’s partner, partially confirmed in a message published on Instagram: “A year of waiting for a call, a visit, a project, a little attention…”

Ander Herrera won the Copa del Rey last April with a penalty shootout victory against Real Mallorca. Over the entire season, the Basque midfielder played 27 matches in all competitions.
