After several hours of closure in the north direction, traffic resumed on one lane around 10 a.m. in the Laurentides wildlife reserve. An accident possibly involving a young driver who was intoxicated was the cause of this disruption.
In the middle of the night, around 2:30 a.m., the 18-year-old driver violently left the road near Lac Jacques-Cartier while he was traveling towards Quebec. The vehicle caught fire after impact. Two passengers aged 15 and 17 were with him. One of them was seriously injured, but his life is not believed to be in danger.

Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) opened an investigation. They suspect the driver was impaired at the time of the accident. He was arrested on the spot by officers.
There S.Q. and the Ministry of Transport took several hours to find a solution to get motorists and heavy trucks moving because investigators were on the scene and had to collect clues.

A long queue formed waiting for the road to reopen. It was closed just outside the L’Étape parking lot and hundreds of vehicles, particularly trucks, were stuck on site.
The damaged vehicle has since been towed.
