will the Netflix series have a sequel?

For several years, German series have established themselves on the international scene – and Netflix has understood this well. From thriller to drama to action, the platform has focused on varied shows, all of which have met with great success in its catalog. Dark fascinated us with its complex temporal plot, Unorthodox touched us with its poignant story of emancipation, Dear Little turned our brains upside down, and Cleo captivated us with its dose of dark humor and fighting. On the other side of the Rhine, filmmakers are constantly renewing genres, offering original and profound stories, with slick production. The latest one? The Zen Murdersan eight-episode production that continues to obsess us.

When Dexter meets Little BamBou

Released on October 31 on Netflix, the series rose to the top of the platform's most viewed programs in just one weekend. Adapted from the eponymous novels by Karsten Dusse, sold more than two million copies in Germany, the latter immerses us in a world that combines the expertise of Dexterthe madness and humor of Breaking Badand the mindfulness meditation of Petit BamBou.

We follow the daily life of Björn Diemel (brilliantly played by Tom Schilling), a great lawyer who discovers by chance a new relaxing hobby: murder. Trying to find a better balance between his professional and private life, the forty-year-old attends a seminar on mindfulness. His goal: to find a way to spend more time with his daughter, and to save his marriage.

“The seminar keeps its promises, but not as Björn had imagined, underlines the official synopsis. When he decides to apply the mindfulness techniques he has just learned to his client, mafia boss Dragan Sergowicz (Sascha Geršak), he finds himself with the police and an entire criminal gang on his trail. However, in this tense context, Björn manages to keep his cool and completely transform his life. And if he now has to eliminate a few people to solve his problems, these are only natural consequences of his change of life. »

A story to rewrite

Fascinated by this contrast between the quest for serenity and the violence of the actions, the spectators base the first season in a few hours and are now wondering about a potential sequel. In fact, Netflix has not formalized the renewal of the series. However, several clues give hope for a second salvo. Indeed, rapid success and positive public reception are major assets, with the platform often basing its decisions on viewing statistics and audience retention rates.

Additionally, the original material provides solid material to continue the story. The first season adapted the entire first novel by Karsten Dusse, and the second could naturally be inspired by his second novel, The child in me wants to murder mindfully (The Zen Murders – Volume 2 Murders to let go).

In this volume, the lawyer has abandoned his career to manage two criminal clans, while running a private daycare and navigating a complex relationship with his ex-wife. Enough to give rise to new episodes just as crazy and rhythmic as the first. If this sequel is confirmed, Tom Schilling should reprise his role as Björn Diemel, and we could expect the return of Emily Cox (Katharina Diemel), Sascha Geršak (Dragan Sergowicz) or even Alexander Czerwinski (Vladimir).
