Gang war in Brussels: a young man in his twenties risks eleven years in prison for a double attempted murder in Ixelles

The Brussels public prosecutor’s office on Friday requested an eleven-year prison sentence for a young man aged around twenty years old and suspected of two attempted homicides. He was subdued in 2022 while pointing a loaded weapon at someone. In 2023, he shot a gang member but accidentally hit a bystander. The defense requested acquittal for these latter facts.

The events took place on the night of September 23 to 24, rue Francart in Ixelles. It was probably a settling of scores linked to drug trafficking. A member of the Versailles, KY urban gang was shot in the ribs. A young lady who had no connection with drug trafficking was shot in the leg as she was returning home.

Subsequently, KY, the victim of the shooting, identified a young man in his twenties as the shooter. The latter is not unknown to the justice system. In 2022, he was arrested in the same neighborhood while pointing a loaded gun at a person. According to the Brussels public prosecutor’s office, the individual already had a long criminal record and the evidence of his guilt was more than sufficient. The defense sees things differently and requests acquittal for the September 2023 shooting.

”The only element is KY’s statement, which is absolutely not credible. As for the facts of 2022, these are only threats and not attempted homicide. This is why we are asking for a prison sentence with a probationary suspension”, advances the defense. The verdict will be delivered on June 25.
