A crash of a gyroplane, an aircraft similar to a small helicopter, occurred in Les Escoumins, in the Lac-au-Brochet and Lac St-Onge sector, early Monday afternoon.

According to the Sûreté du Québec, the two passengers in the vehicle were transported to the Chicoutimi Hospital Center by helicopter. One of them suffered serious injuries, but his life is not feared. The other was transported as a preventative measure, and was not reported to have suffered any injuries.

A patch of fog could have possibly caused the loss of control of the vehicle, according to the S.Q., who specifies having received the call around 1:15 p.m.

The gyroplane left the Baie-Comeau airport around 11:30 a.m. before disappearing from radar about an hour later, near Les Bergeronnes.

The Transportation Safety Board is handling the investigation.

More details will follow.
