After a French court overturned President Emmanuel Macron's decision to refuse the participation of Israeli industries in the Euronaval 2024 naval weapons exhibition in Paris, companies from the Jewish state participated in the event which started this Monday morning. Israeli companies at the show include Israel Shipyards, Rafael, Orbit DSIT and Orca.
Last week, the Paris Commercial Court accepted the joint petition filed by Israel Shipyards and the France-Israel Chamber of Commerce and ruled that Israeli companies would be allowed to participate in the Euronaval show. The decision of the French government and the organizers of the show to ban the participation of Israeli companies in the event was thus canceled. Such a decision did not comply with free market rules in the European Union, according to the court and is contrary to the principles of equality and non-discrimination.*
Euronaval is considered one of the most important exhibitions in the world for maritime defense technologies. The French government justified its decision to prohibit the participation “only” of the participation of “Israeli companies having participated in the fighting in Gaza or Lebanon”. Israel saw this as a fallacious pretext, since most of the country's companies participate directly or indirectly in the fighting.
