(Updated Friday June 6, 2024 at 11:35 a.m.) The accident ended at 10 a.m. and traffic returned to normal around 11 a.m., after the reopening of entrance 52 towards Italy. The driver of a heavy goods vehicle was extricated and evacuated to Pasteur hospital.
This Friday, June 7, 2024, during rush hour, the drivers of a truck and a car collided on the A8 motorway, north of Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), while crossing the Magnan viaduct.
Traffic is very complicated in the area, says Vinci Autoroutes. A 5 km traffic jam formed towards Italy.
An accident during rush hour
Around 8:15 a.m. this Friday morning, an accident occurred involving a truck and a car on the highway, on the Magnan viaduct, towards Italy. If the circumstances are not known, traffic is extremely heavy.
The accident having occurred between interchanges 52 (Nice Saint-Isidore) and 54 (Nice-Nord), a traffic jam has formed from the west of Nice and now reaches the interchange allowing departure on the 202 bis (exit 51.1, Carros).
Two lanes neutralized and one entrance closed
This is explained by the neutralization of the two rightmost traffic lanes to allow the intervention of the emergency services, assures Vinci Autoroutes.
In addition, the entrance to the motorway via interchange 52 from Nice Saint-Isidore towards Italy was closed to relieve traffic congestion. Motorists are urged to use the secondary routes and can only enter the highway to Italy north of Nice.
An extricated driver
Around 11 a.m., traffic returned to normal. Interchange 52 was reopened around 10:15 a.m. and the accident ended at 10 a.m.
Contrary to what we initially indicated, it was not a truck and a light vehicle involved in this accident but two trucks and a car, say the firefighters. The driver of one of the two trucks, aged 40, was transported to Pasteur hospital after being extricated. The other two drivers were unhurt.
