Bérénice Bejo spoke in the columns of Madame Figaro on May 31. The actress, starring in the film Sous la Seine broadcast on Netflix, made revelations concerning the filming.

This is a film that viewers have been eagerly awaiting. This Wednesday, June 5, Netflix unveiled the new feature film entitled Under the Seine. Only a few weeks before the Paris Olympic Games, this one is causing a lot of talk. The story takes place in the summer of 2024 when Paris organizes the triathlon world championships on the Seine.
However, the competition will be turned upside down by the presence… of a shark in the water. On the poster for this one, we find Bérénice Bejo who spoke in the columns of
Madame Figaro last May 31. The actress spoke about the shark, giving details about the filming.

For Bérénice Bejo, this shoot was a real challenge… which she accepted with great pleasure. The actress, however, encountered some difficulties. “I haven’t swum with real sharks” she revealed. If the sea monster which is present throughout the film will scare more than one, director Xavier Gens has made sure that it is as real as possible. “Xavier suggested it to me to prepare myself, and even though I understand that dangerous species are extremely rare, I prefer caution and not to disturb them in their natural environment,” assures Bérénice Bejo. “On screen, the illusion is perfect”specifies the actress.

Under the Seine: a film that promises impressive sequences

Bérénice Béjo is delighted to have participated in this feature film and she does not hesitate to let people know. “Xavier always places himself in the place of the viewer and gives the viewer everything he expects from a shark film: the suspense, the sea monster, the jump scares…”, she revealed. To prepare as best as possible, the actors underwent extensive preparation, which was not always easy. “I had never done diving, not seeing and knowing what is under my feet scares me”, said Bérénice Béjo. However, with a little patience and practice, she was able to overcome her fears.

In action films, many actors opt for stunt doubles. This was not the case for Bérénice Béjo who absolutely wanted to perform her own stunts. “That’s why I accepted the film”she confided before continuing:
“This is what I was looking for at this point in my career, what I needed.” Used to more relaxed roles, Bérénice Béjo wanted to challenge herself. Playing the wife of, the girlfriend of or even the mother of, the actress is used to it and she wanted to move on to something else. “I really need something more, and it’s not that easy to find.”she concluded.

Under the Seine: special training for actors

By accepting this role, Bérénice Béjo and her partner Nassim Lyes were aware that the filming was not going to be easy. However, there was no way they could not give their all. A lot of preparation was necessary for the filming of many scenes. “My first training session, I didn’t go deeper than a meter and my ears hurt,” said Bérénice Bejo. However, after several weeks of training, his physical condition greatly improved. “And then we slowly passed the two meter mark, we did a bit of apnea… And in the end, I was able to spin at a depth of more than ten meters,” she continued.
