The images are impressive. A huge fire broke out in the middle of Ahrensfelde station in Berlin during the night from Saturday to Sunday, consuming an entire train. No passengers were on board. The train driver and an attendant were treated on the spot by emergency services, but were not injured, specifies the German newspaper Spiegel.

Firefighters were alerted shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday. When they arrived, the three wagons were already fully engulfed in flames, according to a spokesperson. The station was completely closed during the intervention, and traffic was interrupted. The firefighters finally put out the flames around midnight, then the last embers at dawn, after a whole night of extinguishing work. This Sunday morning, trains are running again, said a Deutsche Bahn spokesperson.

We do not yet know the causes of the fire. An investigation is underway. The charred train does not belong to Deutsche Bahn, but to Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn AG (NEB), a private regional railway company. According to witnesses, there was a lot of smoke before the fire broke out, reports the Bild newspaper.
