Marseille: a day for seniors at Longchamp Park

On the occasion of the third edition of Seniors’ Day, nearly 1,500 people were expected this Thursday at Longchamp Park, a figure up compared to previous years. Ahmed Heddadi, deputy mayor of Marseille in charge of Bel Âge, said he was delighted by the enthusiasm generated by the event: “It motivates us to be creative and be able to offer them even more. There is a real desire on the part of the municipality and the clubs to bring seniors out of their isolation and to put a smile on their face, by offering them a range of services.“.

Throughout the day, many participants gathered information from the numerous stands before participating in a raffle and enjoying a free lunch. They also enthusiastically took part in the dance and sports demonstrations offered to them before the event impatiently awaited by Mireille, Marie-Hélène and Marie-Jo: “the ball of course”. Present since the first edition of Seniors’ Day, they are pleased to “this very good idea, which allows you to meet people“.

Among the great initiatives, the Ensemble2générations association has set itself the mission of fighting against the isolation of seniors, by offering them the opportunity to live together with students. “Today, one in three seniors is in a situation of isolationexplains Bérénice de Foresta, general secretary of the southern branch of the association. Our initiative allows both to create intergenerational links, but also to help students in precarious situations.
