After a dark year in 2022, the number of accidents started to decline again in 2023 in the Brussels Region. A decline which is confirmed at the start of 2024.

According to the recent Vias report, 812 bodily accidents were reported this first quarter in Brussels, i.e. a drop of 5% compared to 2023. With the exception of the year 2021 marked by covid, these are from the lowest level in the decade.

Fewer injured scooter riders

The number of injured is also down slightly: 953 in the first three months, compared to 982 for the same period last year. Over these first three months, one death, that of a motorcyclist, has been reported.

Most accidents involve motor vehicles. Of the 812 accidents in Brussels at the start of 2024, 223 involve pedestrians and 182 cyclists. Of these, 33 concern electric bicycles.
