Sorority, the end of adolescence and the fight against sexist and sexual violence are at the heart of this new punchy mini-series which is a hit on Netflix.

This is the new series that’s getting people talking on Netflix. On May 31, the platform unveiled a new mini-series which quickly took off at the top of the most viewed series this week. And we rejoice, since Ni Una Más (translated into English by Raising Voices) deals with the fight against sexist and sexual violence.

Ni Una MásWhat is it about ?

Ni Una Más should delight fans of Iberian adolescent fiction such as Through my window And Against the direction. Carried by the actresses of these two boxes (one available on Netflix, the other on Prime), this new Spanish drama in 8 episodes immerses us in the daily life of Alma, a 17 year old teenager. On the eve of the end of high school, Alma leads a completely normal life with her two lifelong friends, Greta and Nata with whom she shares everything.

But when the profile @Iam_colemanmiller publishes a photo on social networks with the caption: “That was me before I was raped”, everything changes in the lives of these teenagers. How and when did this attack occur? Who is behind this profile? Is this allegation true and if so, Who is the victim ?

Why it’s worth a look

This mysterious starting point allows us to reveal an entire system of sexist and sexual oppression, far from the ideal of a serene adolescence. Throughout the episodes, we follow a double investigation to understand who is the victim of the rape but especially the attacker. Thanks to flashbacks and a suspenseful investigation, the series combs through the workings of masculinity in all its most toxic aspects. She also dissects relationships of predation and domination which plague society, even in its institutions like school.

A true story ?

If you know Spanish feminism, you have probably already heard the slogan which gives its title to the series. Meaning “Not one more”, this slogan is used by Spanish feminist activists. However, the series is not based on a true story but on a novel. Its title is the same as that of the 2021 book signed by the Spanish author and screenwriter Miguel Saez Carral.
