This could be the second feminicide in the region in just a few days. The events took place around 8 a.m., at the couple’s home, in Bruay-sur-l’Escaut, a small town of just over 10,000 inhabitants, located in the Nord department.

A 41-year-old man called police to report the death of his wife, also 41 years old. On site around 8 a.m., the police “discovered the lifeless body of the victim, who had a gunshot wound” and arrested and placed his partner in police custody, reported the Valenciennes public prosecutor’s office.

They had been a couple for 14 years and no complaint or police intervention for domestic violence had been filed before these events, underlines the prosecution. The accused, who had no criminal record with the exception of a recall to the law in 2008 for drug use, admitted to having killed his partner, specifies the prosecution.

The facts allegedly occurred in front of the couple’s two children, aged 9 and 13, and a child of the victim born from a previous union, aged 18.

An investigation into intentional homicide by a spouse was opened and entrusted to the Valenciennes police station.
