Exceptional day, exceptional device

“There are between 40,000 and 50,000 people estimated throughout the day”, announced Thomas Velter, the general director of the national public establishment of Mont Saint-Michel. Friday May 31, the Olympic flame stops at La Merveille. A stopover village, the site expects a peak in attendance for this event. The organizers give their tips for having a good time. “ Exceptional day, exceptional device”comments Thomas Velter.

Come all day

If the highlight of the show takes place at 6 p.m., activities are organized throughout the day. The Barracks and the dam host sporting and cultural events for the general public. It is also recommended that visitors come “as early as possible and leave late”.

Where to stand to see the flame?

The organizers advise “choose a strategic observation point from 5 p.m., from the dam to the foot of the Mont”. It will not be possible to move freely everywhere, the interior of the Mount will be “protected from 2 p.m.”. The Abbey will be closed for part of the afternoon and access to the village will not be possible from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. “It will be like during high tides, if the public returns Intramuralhe will not be able to leave before the end of the passage »specifies Jacques Bono, the mayor of the town. “It is preferable to place yourself outside the Mount”advises Thomas Velter. “Two giant screens, placed at the foot of the Mount and at the dam, will broadcast the event live. »

Where to park?

The organizers expect up to 50,000 people, which raises the question of parking. The site can accommodate vehicles in its parking lots, but this may not be enough. It will be possible to park in the Moidrey racecourse car park, at the Beauvoir village hall, on the communal land opposite the Beauvoir cemetery and at Buternes in Ardevon. These are located between 2.5 and 3.5 km from the festivities and are accessible on foot by taking the greenway or the river bank road. It is not planned that shuttles will be put in place.

How to eat?

All shops and restaurants will be open to allow visitors to eat. It is also possible to picnic, however, the organizers call for eco-citizenship. As the site aims to be zero waste, it has very few bins and there is no question “to install garbage dumpsters for this day. We ask visitors to leave with their waste.”
