Opposed to Jude Bellingham and Vinicius, his probable future Real Madrid teammates, Kylian Mbappé received the trophy for best player of the season at the Globe Soccer Awards Europe!
Failing to communicate his future club before joining Clairefontaine, Wednesday, in order to start preparing for Euro 2024 with the France team, Kylian Mbappé attended the ceremony of the first “Globe Soccer Awards – Europe Edition”, Tuesday evening in a luxury host in Sardinia. He didn’t make the trip for nothing: the French football phenomenon received the Globe Soccer Award for Best Player of the European Season! It escapes no one, Mbappé is obviously absent with PSG from Saturday’s Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. Jude Bellingham and Vinicius, his future teammates at Casa Blanca, were therefore not rewarded. They will perhaps be champions of Spain and Europe in three days… Antoine Griezmann was also named, as were Serhou Guirassy, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, Lautaro Martinez, Rodrigo, Mohamed Salah and Bernardo Silva.
Kylian Mbappé with Nasser Al-Khelaïfi
On the Italian island, Kylian Mbappé met his future ex-president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, since the Qatari was elected best leader of the year. Warren Zaire-Emery was nominated for the “emerging player” award, which went to Lamine Yamal, the Barça winger, at the expense of Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Kobbie Mainoo and Cole Palmer. Harry Kane was honored as the top scorer of the season.
Finally, Xabi Alonso was voted best coach (after winning the title at Leverkusen) and Mikel Arteta best coach in the Premier League (without winning the championship), both ahead of Pep Guardiola. Manchester City was however elected club of the season ahead of Real Madrid or Leverkusen, Atalanta being the “revelation of the year”. Barça Femini is the women’s team of the season after their LDC coronation against OL.
