Lhe departmental council of voted unanimously on Friday in favor of changing the name of the d’Aulne college, where Samuel Paty, a history and geography professor murdered on October 16, 2020 by a radicalized Islamist, taught.

The establishment, located in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, will now be called the Samuel Paty college.

“By naming the Bois d’Aulne college, Collège Samuel Paty, we will embody the ideal of , this republican hope of progress through knowledge, by giving it the face of a humble, devoted, passionate man: the face by Samuel Paty,” declared Pierre Bédier, president of the Yvelines department, during a public session.

This decision ratifies the votes of the establishment and the municipal council of Conflans Sainte-Honorine.

The Yvelines department specifies in a press release that it “will proceed during the year to affix the new plaques for the college during a ceremony”.

Reminder of the facts

Samuel Paty, a 47-year-old professor, was stabbed and then beheaded on October 16, 2020 by Abdoullakh Anzorov, a refugee of Chechen origin.

The 18-year-old young man, a radicalized Muslim, criticized him for showing caricatures of Mohammed in class. Before being killed by the police, he took responsibility for his actions by congratulating himself on having “avenged the prophet”.
