The Daguin house in Fort-de-France was completely destroyed by fire

One of the architectural jewels of the city of Fort-de- went up in smoke last night (Thursday October 17 to Friday October 18). The Daguin house was destroyed following a fire. The building was the subject of an overall neighborhood redevelopment project.

It was a little after midnight on the night of Thursday October 17 to Friday October 18 when the firefighters were called to a fire in a house located in the Rive Droite Canal Levassor district of Fort-de-France.

The building of around a hundred m2 completely burst into flames. Around 10 a.m., a small team was still mobilized on site for surveillance.

This building is in fact the “Daguin house”. Residents and users of the section of road which runs along the Levassor Canal know it perfectly.

It was a historic house in the neighborhood. It is above all an architectural work, very particular with the colonial style, there for years. It was a house that was very popular in the heart of the neighborhood. It was supposed to be rehabilitated for years as part of the city center project.

The local residents we met told us that the building was squatted. Some even speak of police patrols a few days earlier.
But depending on the city “the house had been ruined recently“.

The building was part of a vast redevelopment project on Boulevard Adhémar Modock involving housing, parking, etc. The work which has already started is expected to extend over more months and years.

Considering what happened and the state since there is no more house. We will review the project and perhaps propose something else. But the project will continue because it is important. He will change the facade of the boulevard.

All that remains is sheet metal and a few sections of wall.

A police investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of this fire.
